City Shine Students need your help URGENTLY!!

This is not normally how we like to do fundraising but this is a very serious issue that needs help immediately!
The landlord of the Secondary School building has raised the rent and threatened to evict all students and teachers if the amount is not paid.

What makes this issue even more horrible is that all students are in the middle of writing their exams, and this is the government-approved location for exams. This means, that if exams are not written there, the education board does not recognize them, meaning that all the students hard work and growth and effort will go to waste.

There have been arrangements made to build temporary classrooms on our recently bought land for the start of next semester in February and of course to change the location of the exam site but nothing can be changed in time for the students writing right now.

So this is where we need YOUR help!

We need to raise €500 as soon as possible so they can stay in the building until the end of January and the students can finish their exams!

It is extremely unfair and completely out of their hands. Their only chance is that we can come up with the money and they can complete their exams, moving them one step closer to their dreams of a proper education.

I know times are financially tough and Christmas is just around the corner, but any amount will help. Every donation is greatly appreciated and if everyone donates just a bit we will meet our €500 goal!!

Please share this message on Facebook/Twitter or personally ask friends and family to help these students out!

Donations can be made through www.cityshine.org or http://webshop.cityshinecommunity.org

PayPal, iDeal (only in NL), credit card, cash and bank transfers are all possible! Please note that Dutch donations are tax-deductible!

Please let us know if you have any questions!

Thank you so much for your support!

The second edition of MTV Night at the American School of The Hague was a huge success!
Same as last year’s event, students of ASH made existing songs into amazing and creative videoclips!

The students baked cupcakes, a popcorn machine was present and calendars were being sold.
All the profits of that night, including ticket sale for the show, was raised for City Shine Foundation!

Thanks to the CAS students of the ASH we raised a total of €788!

Thank you so much!!!

Our friend, Kristel Raijmakers, is a teacher at an elementary school called “de Schakel” in Leimuiden.
She arranged for us to give a few presentations at the school.
We’ll be explaining to the kids why we started the foundation and what we’ll do with the money they are going to raise for us.

City Shine Community Foundation is very excited to work with another (Dutch) school that is willing to help our Kenyan kids getting a better education! It’s a great way for kids to get the know about another culture and at the same time help a Kenyan kid go to school!

Every year, second year students of ROC Mondriaan receive an assignment to organize an event.
This year, City Shine was invited to give a presentation to tell the students all about what we do as a foundation.
We told them about the conditions that the students live in, the lack of supplies and equipment and the area the school is situated in.
We also showed the City Shine promo video and we could tell instantly that the students were impressed.
The students were then divided into 8 groups and had to create an idea for a fundraiser event. A few weeks later they presented their plans to us in a 3-minute pitch. After a difficult decision we chose 2 different groups The first group came up with an idea to have a jam session fundraiser in a ‘surf village’ called F.A.S.T. where several bands would perform. All donations that were collected would go straight to City Shine.

The students created a flyer that was spread out all over The Hague and posted online: Thursday, May 24th was the day of the event. Around 6 a DJ started playing music and people started to arrive. The weather was perfect, reaching aroung 27 degrees C. The bands were a mix of all genres having something for everyone. Right from the beginning there was a great atmophere and mood around the ‘village’. Whether they were sitting back relaxing in the sun, singing along or up dancing, I think its safe to say that everyone that attended had an enjoyable evening. In addition to a great evening of live music ans sun it was a very successful evening for City Shine!

A total of €656 was raised that night!

All thanks to the following people:

  • the students of ROC Mondriaan: – Simone Pronk – Elsemieke Hazewindus – Vanisha Habib – Nick Sadi – Stefania van der Bij – Raymond Ramcharan
  • The bands: – Roep & David – Pinata – DJ Steve Anthony – Nello & Teddy
  • F.A.S.T. staff
  • everyone that showed up to support us!
